Army Driving Licenses printing saves state funds
January 02, 2021In a project mooted to save state funds, Sri Lanka Army (SLA) commenced the printing of National Driving Licenses following a special Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Department (MTD) Sumith Alahakoon and Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, at Werahera, MTD premises, yesterday (Jan 01).
For last 15 years, the Driving Licenses Printing was conducted by a private firm, in collaboration with an overseas company, as a joint venture, spending a large sum of foreign exchange.
Therefore, SLA Signallers set up an 'Army Information Technology Solutions Centre' to undertake the Driving Licenses printing process at the MTD, Werahera.
The Transport Minister Hon. Gamini Lokuge and the State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry Hon Dilum Amunugama were also present at the inaugural session.
Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Senior State Officials, MTD officials, Senior Army Officers and invitees were also present at the occasion.
