Defence Secretary delves into CRD inventions

Defence Secretary and National Security and Disaster Management State Ministry Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), arrived yesterday (Feb 22) at the Centre for Research and Development (CRD) in Pitipana to witness the progress of inventions.

CRD’s Director General Maj. Gen. Renuka Rowel (Retd) received the visiting high official upon his arrival.

An array of innovative products spearheaded by the CRD, being an institution pioneering in providing much-needed cost effective innovative solutions for the country, were displayed to the Defence Secretary during the visit.

The respective CRD sectional heads briefed the Secretary on the progression, discoveries and its future plans.

‘Artificial Limb Controlled by the Human Brain’, unmanned Light Aircraft Operating System ‘Black Spy’ intended for aerial observation, ‘Field Artillery Firing Observer’s Training Simulator’, ‘Parachutists Training Simulator’, ‘Aerial Land Mapping Through unmanned Aircrafts’, ‘Mobile Phone Jammers’ designed for prisons, ‘Gunner and Driver Training Simulator’, ‘Driver Training Simulator’, ‘Laser Guided Rocket and Missile System Simulator’ and the ‘Drone Jammer’ were also among the sophisticated research items displayed.

Painstaking scientific researches spearheaded by the CRD were praised by the Defence Secretary.

The country’s premier research arm, CRD is a brainchild of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa when he was the Defence and Urban Development Secretary.

CRD functioning under the purview of the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management is now focusing on developing and delivering the finest outcome to the country’s future. 

Mementos were also exchanged between the Defence Secretary and Maj. Gen. Rowel to mark the visit.

State Ministry officials including Additional Secretary (National Security) Samanthi Weerasinghe and CRD staffers accompanied the Defence Secretary Gen. Gunaratne.
