“Galle Dialogue 2019” to be held this month

The Sri Lanka Navy’s flagship annual international maritime conference, “Galle Dialogue” will be held in Colombo on 21st and 22nd of this month (October). This year, the “Galle Dialogue - 2019” will be held under the theme “Refining mindset to address transnational maritime threats: A review of the decade”. This was revealed at a media briefing held at the Navy Headquarters in Colombo last evening (15).

President Maithripala Sirisena, is scheduled to grace the inaugural ceremony of the annual maritime conference at the Galle Face Hotel as the Chief Guest.

Representatives from 55 countries, 10 international organizations and 3 defence industries are expected to attend the maritime conclave, this year. This will be the tenth in the sequence of conferences.

From its inception in 2010, the “Galle Dialogue” has become an important event in the international maritime conference circuit. It has created a forum for all stakeholders to express their opinion for safety and security of the maritime domain through cooperation, collaboration and partnerships.

The press briefing was chaired by Navy’s Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne while Deputy Chief of Staff & Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle and Navy Media Spokesman, Lieutenant Commander Isuru Suriyabandara were also associated with the event.

Last year, the Galle Dialogue 2018 was held under the theme “Synergizing for Collaborative Maritime Management”.
