Defence Secretary meets with Indian Defence heads during “DEFEXPO-20” in India
February 08, 2020Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne arrived in India on an invitation by that country to attend the 11th ‘DEFEXPO-2020’, in Lucknow. Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, accompanied by the Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva attended the exposition which commenced on Wednesday (05).
The mega exhibition of defence related hardware and technology displaying India’s land, sea and air capabilities is considered one of the largest defence expos in the world was inaugurated by the Indian Premier Narendra Modi in the presence of a large number of delegates and military leaders from about 150 countries.
During the sidelines of the Exhibition, Maj. Gen. Gunaratne met several Indian leaders including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar.
During the cordial meeting with his Indian counterpart Maj. Gen. Gunaratne had discussions on bilateral matters of security interests, military technologies, research and innovative products among other topics, with special focus on the South Asian region.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne also had discussions with several foreign military chiefs including a high level Russian delegation attending the Exhibition.
The Sri Lankan delegation led by Maj. Gen. Gunaratne, had the opportunity to see an impressive array of exhibits on show. They closely watched sophisticated missiles, submarines, robots, vehicles, guns and different innovations that had been produced by technical experts in universities, other agencies, and a collection of weaponry and technically-advanced equipment on display and also inquired into their production and compositions.
Defexpo India is the largest showcase for new and future defence technology and is one of the largest exhibition for the world's defence companies to display their land, sea and air capabilities at a single exhibition.
