Navy's RO Plant project enters second phase

The second phase of the Sri Lanka Navy's Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant installation project in areas prone to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), commenced with the installation of 6 more RO plants at the sacred site at Okanda in Panama, Kurundupitiya in Vavuniya, SLN Dockyard (2 units), SLNS Agbo and at SLNS Gotaimbara. These water treatment plants were declared open on Saturday (22nd July).

These RO plants are produced and installed by the Research and Development Unit of the SLN with financial provisions from the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and Navy's Social Responsibility Fund. In addition state and private sector institutions, NGOs and private individuals also contribute towards the project.

The project carried forward under the SLN's social responsibility programme has so far seen 236 RO plants being produced and installed in various parts of the country enabling 112,416 families and 80,185 school children easy access to clean and safe drinking water.
