Army public welfare initiatives benefit underprivileged communities and disable people in the North

With a view to uplift the living standards of the underprivileged people living in the Jaffna Peninsula, Sri anka Army troops launched a project to build toilet facilities for a group of needy families there. Under the project, 27 new toilets were built with support from an expat living in Australia, states Army media.

Accordingly, these sanitary facilities were built by Army troops in Jaffna with the support of Dr Uma Nataraja. A ceremony was held at the Kaleivani Community Centre in Velvetithurai, Jaffna on Friday (15 February) to announce the completion of the project. The occasion was also made more memorable as 50 chairs were also donated to the particular community centre.

Meanwhile, troops in the Wanni region facilitated the donation of wheelchairs and walking stands to a group of disable people living in the region. This initiative was taken by the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the generous support of provided by Crystal Martin Garments PLC under their CSR project.

12 wheelchairs and 10 walking stands were distributed to needy beneficiaries. The distribution ceremony was held at SFHQ-W auditorium on Tuesday (19).

In Kilinochchi, 55 flood-affected students received school accessories during a programme held at the Kilinochchi Thampirasa Vidyalaya on Friday (15). In addition, a computer, electric water pump and buckets were also donated to the school. This public welfare programme was carried out by the Security Forces Headquarters- Kilinochchi with support from "Manusath Derana TV'.
