Army troops launch environment protection programmes

Joining hands with ongoing environment protection programmes, the Sri Lanka Army recently conducted a tree planting and beach cleaning campaign in several areas of the country. According to Army media, troops under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) launched a tree planting campaign and coastal clean-up programme in Vakarai in the Eastern region on Sunday (12th November).

During the day long 'Shramadana' programme troops planted more than 200, coconut, pine and mangrove plants. A large number of troops also took part to clean the beach areas in Vakarai.

Meanwhile, troops under Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) took part in a programme to clean up coastal belts in their respective areas from Pannai Junction along the Gurunagar coastal stretch in Jaffna on 08th November. More than 200 Army personnel took part in this programme.
