Educational incentives to Northern students
A record number of 2350 deserving children in the
Jaffna Peninsula were presented with school accessories during a series
of ceremonies organized in coordination with the Security Forces -
Jaffna (SF-J) on Monday (29th January).
According to Army media, the initiative to assist
these children is a result of a personal interest taken by Major
General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna
(SF-J). The Maha Karuna Buddhist Foundation of Malaysia (MKBF) had
sponsored the donation of goods including books, educational equipment,
educational aids, bags, etc.
The students of Urumpirai Hindu Vidyalaya, Uduppiddy
Ladies' College, Nelliaydi Central College, Innuwil R.C.T Maha Vidyalaya
and Chavakachcheri Hindu College were the beneficiaries of this donation
which was distributed during six separate ceremonies.
The distribution ceremonies were attended by donor
agency representatives including Ven. Butawatte Sri Saranankara Nayake
Thero, Patron for Maha Karuna Buddhist Foundation (MKBF), Ven
Mugunnuwela Anuruddha Thero, General Secretary World Youth Buddhist
Monks Association and Mr Jecob Chan, Chairman of the MKBF, senior Army
officers, Principals, teachers and parents of the children.
Meanwhile, Army troops in Mullaitivu launching a
community welfare project, installed two new drinking water outlets
outside the main entrance to the SFHQ-MLT on Friday (26th January), thus
providing free access to drinking water. This project will benefit the resettled
community in the recently released land in Keppapilavu in Mullaitivu.
