'Exercise - Cormorant Strike IX - 2018', the tri
forces joint Field Training Exercise (FTX) that commenced on Thursday
(06) is in progress, with the participation of Army, Navy and Air Force
personnel and foreign participants. The FTX organized by the Army for
the 9th consecutive year is joined by 2500 Army, 400 Navy and 200 Air
Force personnel together with 100 foreign military participants and
observers from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Japan,
India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore,
Sudan, Turkey, UK, USA and Zambia.
As a part of the mock exercises on Sunday (09), saw
troops launch an operation to apprehend 'insurgents' hiding in a train
at the Welikanda Railway Station. Special Forces rider teams supported
by urban fighting teams, including foreign troops were involved in this
Yesterday (11), a mock operation was launched to
secure the release of two foreigners taken hostage by a group of
terrorists in Nandativ island, Kalpitiya. Commando troops along with
Naval troops, were involved in this mock operation.
The Exercise is scheduled to end after the 'Critical
Engagement' on September 26 at Kuchchaveli.
