Incentives for Jaffna families

[February 09 2018]

A group of expectant women in Jaffna were provided with incentives during an interaction with a group of women soldiers of the 7 Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC) recently. The initiative was taken under the socio-economic welfare projects of the troops in Jaffna with a view to uplift the living standards of the local people.

The Sarvodaya Hall in Ariyalai was the venue of the gathering. The event saw members of the Women's Corps socialize with the expectant women and their family members present at the occasion. A stock of milk powder was also presented to the 35 families who were present at the occasion as an incentive.

This is one of the many social welfare assistance provided by the troops in the North to the needy and backward communities in the region. Troops regularly conduct educational seminars for students facing public exams, present scholarships for deserving children, organize medical camps and also carryout Shramadana Campaign (Self-help) in public institutions to ensure proper health standards in the Peninsula and the surrounding areas. Recently a series of such Sharamadana programmes were carried out to clean the wards and premises of a number of hospitals in the region as part of the 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
