More water treatment plants for the North Western Province

Thirteen (13) Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants installed by the Sri Lanka Navy at several locations in the North Western Province were declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena through remote sensing technology at Polpithigama on Friday (24th August).

These RO water treatment plants installed in Boogolla, Hangamuwa, Thumbukulawa, Thalathapitiya, Makulpotha, Doraweruwa, Wellangolla in Polpithigama Divisional secretariat; Maha Ambogama, Nithalawa, Kanduruwewa, Weheragodayaya, Ihala Digana in Ahetuwewa Divisional secretariat and Kiribamuna in Ibbagamuwa Divisional secretariat areas will serve the drinking requirements of a large number of people living in these areas.

Since its inception in December 2015, the Navy's RO plant project has seen several hundred RO water treatment plants being installed in areas where a high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.
