Navy divers were rushed for a rescue mission after several people were reported missing when a boat had capsized in the Ekgal Oya reservoir in Damana, Ampara on Sunday (08). According to Navy media, six Navy divers were sent for the rescue mission yesterday after being informed of the incident.

Navy divers were able to recover the bodies of three (03) of the four victims and are looking for the remaining person.

The unfortunate incident had occurred when nine members of a group of 45 from Siri Seevali Vidyalaya in Kandana, attending an excursion organized by the school's welfare society had gone missing after going for a boat ride in the Ekgal Oya reservoir yesterday morning. The boat they were on had capsized drowning all onboard. Five (05) of the victims had managed to save their lives after being rescued by the villagers.

The bodies recovered by Navy divers have been identified as those of the Principal (53), a teacher (43) and a student (13). Navy divers continue to look for the remaining victim who is said to be the watcher of the school.
