Navy provides more water treatment plants

Several more water treatment plants (Reverse Osmosis) produced by Sri Lanka Navy were installed in Anuradhapura, Jaffna and Pollonnaruwa areas recently. According to Navy media sources these Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants developed by the Navy's Research and Development Unit were installed at Elapathgama Sri Sobhitha Viharaya in Mahawilachchiya, Janakapura Rajamaha Viharaya in Sampathnuwara and Sripura Parana Medawachchiya Ranmaduwa Rajamaha Viharaya in Padaviya, Karagahawewa Viharaya in Thalawa, Poonewa Maha Vidyalaya and in the villages of Keeramale, Aralaganvila, Bulankulama and Pahalagama in the Nuwaragam Pradeshiya Sabha region.

These RO plants were installed with financial contributions from the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease (01), Ministry of Buddhasasana (02), Sri Lanka Navy's Social Responsibility Fund (03), Sri Lanka Customs Sports Club (01) and the North Central Provincial Council (02). More than 3700 families and over 1200 school children will directly benefit from these water treatment plants.

So far Sri Lanka Navy has produced and installed 162 RO plants in areas prone to Chronic Kidney Disease. The project which got off the ground in December 2015 under a concept of the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has provided over 76,925 families and 60,000 school children around the island unhindered and free access to safe drinking water.
