[November 21 2018]
Sri Lanka Navy
troops rendered assistance to
rescue a trapped fisherman
inside a fishing trawler at the
Codbay fishing harbor in
Trincomalee, on Monday (19
November). According to Navy
media the fisherman had been
onboard the fishing trawler 'Jayavi
IV' which was being loaded with
ice. Unfortunately, the craft
had lost control and listed
trapping the fisherman inside
the vessel.
A navy team was quickly dispatched by Naval
authorities upon being informed of the incident. The navy rescue team
managed to rescue the fisherman with the assistance of other fishermen
and send him to the General Hospital in Trincomalee.
This incident had also caused an oil spill in the
harbor waters. Navy and Coast Guard personnel together had launched an
operation to remove the oil spill. The joint operation saw about 350
liters of oil being removed.
