President declares open water treatment plant at Jaffna University
President Maithripala Sirisena declared open two water
treatment plants (RO) installed by the Sri Lanka Navy at the precincts
of the Jaffna University, on Sunday (02nd October).
The RO plants built by the Research and Development
Unit of the Navy with funds from the Presidential Task Force on Chronic
Kidney Disease Prevention were installed within a short period of time.
The buildings which house these machines were also constructed by naval
The Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic
Kidney Disease was established with direct guidance and instructions of
His Excellency in order to enhance facilities of welfare and
preventative matters to patients affected with Chronic Kidney Disease.
It is operational under the development and Special Project Division of
Presidential Secretariat with the aim of harnessing and sharing
knowledge, application of best practice, preventing occurrence and
guaranteeing treatment and ensuring welfare of the affected through a
process of coordination.
Sri Lanka Navy has installed 32 such RO plants in
areas prone to renal disease across the island especially at schools.
The plant is manufactured by the navy's Research and Development Unit at
Religious dignitaries including venerable members of
the Maha Sangha, Governor of the Northern Province, Vice Chancellor of
University of Jaffna, Commander of the Navy, Inspector General of
Police, state officials, senior naval officers, university officials and
undergrads were also present at the occasion.
