President graces 2nd Anniversary Ceremony

The President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Maithripala Sirisena graced the "The dawn of three years in era of sustainability" programme held in view of the second anniversary of the government at the BMICH in Colombo on Sunday (08th January 2017).

Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in India Hon. N Chandrababu Naidu, State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi were also present at the occasion.

President also witnessed the exhibition of newspaper cartoons depicting the Head of State prior to the event.

Speaking at the occasion president pointed that, India and Sri Lanka are two countries that bonded spiritually rather than on conventions and agreements, and emphasized the new government has strengthened bilateral relationships with Europe and the Arab states. The President also highlighted that the year 2017 is dedicated to alleviate poverty through sustainable development with main emphasis on food, education and health.

The official website of the national program of poverty alleviation "Shrama Shakthi" was launched by the president during the event. President also received books written by intellectuals during the ceremony.

Members of the Maha Sanga, religious dignitaries, ministers, parliamentarians, senior state offcials, diplomats, tri forces commanders and distinguished invitees were present at the occasion.
