President graces DSCSC Graduation Ceremony
President Maithripala Sirisena was the chief guest at
the Graduation Ceremony of Course No 11 of the Defence Services Command
and Staff College (DSCSC) in Batalanda held at the college auditorium
today (13th Wednesday, December 2017).
State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene,
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne PC and
Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence, Mr. Sunil Samaraweera were
also present at the occasion.
The 11th Course includes 65 Officers from the Sri
Lanka Army, 23 Officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, 26 Officers form the
Sri Lanka Air Force, three Officers from Bangladesh and one Officer each
from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan,
Rwanda, Sudan, USA and Vietnam. All officers received their Master of
Science in Defence and Strategic Studies Degree awarded from the General
Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), during the ceremony.
The Golden Pen Award for the best research paper was
awarded to Wg Cdr HMLS Lankathilake. The Golden Owl Award for the most
outstanding performance of Course No 11 was awarded to (Army Wing) Major KSRP Gunathilake, (Navy Wing) Lieutenant Commander JHCH Ranaweera and
(Air Wing) Wg Cdr HMLS Lankathilake. The most outstanding foreign
student award was presented to (Army Wing) Major PK Khadka of Nepal and
Commander MM Rahman of Bangladesh.
The Army Command and Staff College (ACSC), the
precursor to the DSCSC was established in 1998. In order to bring all
military doctrinal and strategic level teaching of tri services under a
one roof, the ACSC was subsequently transformed into the DSCSC on 22nd January
Chief of Defence Staff, tri forces Commanders,
Ministry officials, foreign delegates, DSCSC staff and a large number of
distinguished invitees were present at the occasion.
