Secretary attends 'Colombo Supercross-2017'

Sri Lanka Navy's inaugural motor sports event, the 'Colombo Supercross-2017' was held on Sunday (07th May) at the Navy Racing Track at Welisara. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi attended the event as the chief guest.

The Secretary was received by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne upon his arrival at the venue.

'Colombo Supercross-2017' had been organized by the SLN in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR). The event saw 125 motor cross riders and 85 race car drivers fight for the honours in 12 motorcar and 10 motor cycle categories. A number of top notch riders and drivers in the local motor sports scene participating at the races managed to raise the excitement and the thrill of the moment with their superior maneuvering skills and dare. Several Navy sportsmen taking part at the races also managed to win places.

Sri Lanka Navy expects to utilize the funds generated through 'Colombo Supercross' towards the welfare of Navy War Hero families including awarding scholarships to their children.

Secretary Hettiarachchi presented trophies and certificates to the winners of the races during of the event.

Senior Naval officers including Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, SLADAR officials and a large number of naval personnel and spectators were also present at the event.
