Troops join to celebrate Pongal festival

[January 16 2018]

Signifying good will and coexistence, Sri Lanka Army troops in the North joined the 'Pongal' celebrations of the local community there. Pongal is a harvest festival and is an important festival celebrated by the Tamil community. The festival was celebrated on Sunday (14th January).

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) took part in a community programme in Keppapilavu, with the recently resettled community, on Pongal day (14th January). Troops also hosted lunch to 85 families in the resettled village.

Meanwhile, troops of the 64 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) had organized a 'Dansela' (free food stall) for the devotees arriving at the Oddusudan Shivam Kovil on Sunday (14). A Sharamadana programme (self-help) was also conducted at the temple. Both events were attended by more than 100 troops and about 700 devotees. A special 'Pooja' was also held to bless the people and the troops serving in the region.
