Foreign participants successfully conclude VBSS course

The 3rd Visit Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) course conducted by the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) of the Sri Lanka Navy for the military personnel from Indonesian, Malaysian, and Philippine affiliated to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) concluded on a successful note recently.

According to Navy media, the training programme was conducted from the 19th to 24th November at the SBS Headquarters in the eastern port city of Trincomalee. Twenty participants including 08 Indonesian customs officials, 08 Malaysian Coast Guard officials and 02 officials each from the Maritime Police and Coast Guard of the Philippines attended the six-day course conducted by the Navy in collaboration with the UNODC. During the course, the participants were imparted with knowledge mainly on drug identification, drug transferring methods and planning, preparation and boarding during VBSS operations.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mr. Akira Sugiyama. Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, head of Global Maritime Crime Programme Mr. Alan Cole and senior naval officers were also present at the occasion.
