Tiger attack on policemen on duty at the refugee camp in Vavuniya -
at 20:56 p.m. on 01st January
Tiger terrorists fired gun shots at two Policemen
guarding a refugee camp at Punthottam, VAVUNIYA today (01) around 7.15
The Policemen who were seriously injured were
airlifted to the Anuradhapura hospital.
Two policemen killed in Vavuniya at 17:37 hours on 01st January
Tiger terrorists detonated a claymore mine at a Police
jeep transporting foodstuffs to Police officers, at a place 150 metres
from the road barrier at Settikulam today (01) around 3.00 p.m.
Two Police officers died in the explosion and one
Four dead bodies found in Ampara - at 17:35 p.m hours on 01st
Four dead bodies of Sinhalese persons were recovered
by the Special Task Force (STF) personnel at Bakmitiyawa, AMPARA today
(01) in the morning.
The deceased are identified as M. Banda (52), a
postman and his wife P. Mallika (43), Rathnayake Sudu BANDA (70) and his
wife, Kusumawathi (55). Further a youth named D.M. Dayananda (18) has
STF personnel are making a search operation. It is
believed that the four persons were killed by the LTTE because the
victims were cooperating with the STF.
Troops recover claymore after LTTE small arms attack in Jaffna - at
13:14 p.m hours on 01st January
Troops on duty at the arasadi junction in KOKUVIL
recovered a claymore mine during a cordon and search operation
subsequent to a LTTE hand grenade and small arms attack around 9.10 a.m.
A group of Army soldiers on duty at the ARASADI
junction came under a LTTE hand grenade and small arms attack in the
morning today (01).
No harm was reported to troops or property.
Soldier dies in LTTE claymore mine attack in Jaffna - at 11:26 a.m
hours on 01st January
A soldier was killed and another two injured when the
LTTE detonated a claymore mine targeting a group of Army personnel along
the JAFFNA - POINT PEDRO road around 7.50 a.m. in Navaladi today (01).
Civilians continue to arrive into cleared areas in Batticaloa - at
08:12 a.m hours on 01st January
On Thursday (30) Three (03) families consisting of 10
persons (03 males, 02 females, 01 boy and 04 girls) from the Un-cleared
areas of VAKARAI arrived into the cleared areas of Mankerni.
Tigers fire mortars at army camps in Batticaloa - at 08:11 a.m hours
on 01st January
Today (01) with the dawn of the New Year 2007, Tiger
terrorists fired 81 mm mortars at Black Bridge, Vavunativu, Army
detachments and the Rameshpuram village in Chnekalady.
The Army retaliated with Artillery fire.
No damage to property or casualties are reported.
Claymore Mine Recovered - Batticaloa, at 2:30 Hours on 1 Jan
A claymore mine weighing 4 KG has been recovered near
the Divisional Secretariat Vavunativu around 2:30 p.m.
