Two LTTE child cadres surrender at Polwatta in Valachchenai - on 06th Jan 2007 at 4.00 p.m

Two 16 year old LTTE child cadres (names withheld fearing LTTE reprisals) surrendered to the Security Forces at Polwatta in Valachchenai around 4.00 p.m. today (06).

The two LTTE child cadres are residence of Siththandi. They had been abducted by the LTTE from the same area.

The surrendered cadres had told the Security Forces that they had undergone combat training for 3 months in the Thoppigala Illuppadichena LTTE camp. They had decided to run away as they couldn't bear the brutal training and harassment meted out to them by the LTTE.


LTTE intensifies hand grenade attacks at Karumankadu in Vavuniya - on 06th Jan 2006 at 6.55 p.m

LTTE terrorists lobbed a hand grenade at the Kurumankadu Police roadblock around 6.55 p.m. today (06).

One Police constable sustained injuries in the attack.

The Police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile the Bandarikulam Police road block also came under a LTTE hand grenade attack around 7.00 p.m. today (06).

Four Police personnel who sustained injuries in the attack were admitted to the Vavuniya hospital.


Meetiyagoda bus blast, Death toll increases at Ambalangoda - on 06th Jan 2007 at 2.35 p.m

The death toll of the Meetiyagoda bus blast has risen to 11, a Police investigator of the Ambalangoda Police said.

A powerful bomb ripped through a Colombo-Matara passenger bus around 2.35 p.m. in the Meetiyagoda area today (06). 22 injured people are receiving treatment in the Karapitiya and Balapitiya hospitals while another 20 had been discharged after treatment for minor injuries.

It is also reported that over 40 people had been injured in the attack.


Tigers fire small arms at Police vehicle in Eravur - on 06th Jan 2007 at 10.30 a.m

Today (06) at 10.30 a.m., Tiger terrorists fired Small Arms at the vehicle in which a Police party including the Chief Inspector of Eravur, Savukade area was travelling.

Police retaliated.

Three Policemen who were injured were admitted to hospital.

The Security Forces and Police are conducting a search operation


Tiger artillery continue to target civilians at Kallar in Trincomalee - on 06th Jan 2007 at 8.00 a.m

Today (06) at 8.00 a.m. tigers targeted civilians in Kallar area with artillery fire.

Authoritative sources indicate that if the Tigers continue to fire artillery at civilians it will result in creating increasing numbers of Internally Displaced Persons.

This is a replay of the incident when on 07.12.06 a teacher, a student, his father, a soldier on leave were killed and 10 civilians were injured when the Tiger artillery targeted the Somadevi school when sessions were in progress.


Soldier killed in blast at Uduvil in Jaffna - on 06th Jan 2007 at 9.45 a.m

Today (06), at 9.45 a.m. tigers detonated a claymore mine targeting troops on a route clearing patrol in Uduvil.

One soldier was killed.


Tiger claymore mine kills three soldiers and a civilian at Pattamkulam in Vavuniya - on 06th Jan 2007 at 8.05 a.m

Tiger terrorists detonated a claymore mine targeting a lorry at Pattamkulam carrying servicemen on leave and civilians on the Medawachchiya - Mannar road today (06) at 8.05 a.m.

Three soldiers and a civilian were killed. One civilian was injured.


Tigers target troops but civilians injured in Jaffna - on 06th Jan 2007 at 8.55 a.m

Tiger terrorists targeted an Army route clearing patrol on Saturday (06) at 8.55 a.m. detonating a claymore mine.

No injuries to troops.

Two civilians, a male and a female sustained injuries and admitted to the Jaffna hospital.

Troops are conducting a search operation


Security forces repulse tiger artillery fire at Trincomalee and Batticaloa - on 06th Jan 2007 at 8.00 a.m

Tiger terrorists fired artillery on Friday (05) at 11.30 p.m. and on Saturday (06) at 8.00 a.m. at Mavil Aru, Kallar, Mahindapura and Kadjuwatte Army camps from the un-cleared areas of Vakarai.

A soldier was killed and four were injured.

Troops retaliated.

Meanwhile, early morning today (06), the Security Forces fired artillery on information that a group of Tiger terrorists had arrived from Thoppigala to VAKARAI to launch an attack on the Security Forces.

According to information from communication intercepts and intelligence reports the tigers had sustained heavy casualties.
