Tigers Continue Firing Artillery and Mortars at Villages - Trincomalee at on 10 Jan

Yesterday night (09) and today morning (10) the LTTE fired artillery and mortars at Mahindapura and Thanganagar.

As a result of the Tigers firing of Artillery, two houses of the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) were completely destroyed at Thanganagar.

Troops Repulse Tiger Attack and Recover Weapons - Batticaloa at 2:00 Hours on 10 Jan

In the wee hours of Wednesday (10) morning around 2.00 a.m., troops successfully repulsed a group of Tiger terrorists when preparing to attack them at Sandaveli.

In a search operation which followed, three T 56 assault rifles and two Claymore mines, one hand grenade, 95 rounds of T 56 live ammunition, six pairs of slippers, electronic detonators and 100 meters of wire were recovered by troops.

Meanwhile, Tigers continue to fire artillery and mortars at the Security Forces from across the lagoon.

Troops have retaliated.

Two terrorists killed at Mahakachchikudi in Vavuniya - on 10th Jan 2007 at 10.15 a.m.

Vigilant home guards noted the movement of several terrorists at Mahakachchikudi, North of Vavuniya-Horowpothana road today (09) around 10.15 a.m.

The Home guards along with the army attacked the terrorists forcing them to flee.

On a subsequent search operation dead bodies of two terrorists and two weapons were recovered.

No casualties have been reported among the soldiers and home guards.

Army Recovers 5 kg Claymore Mine - Jaffna, at 16:00 Hours on 10 Jan

On information received from a civilian, troops recovered a 5 kg claymore mine along the Kokuvil road between Jaffna and Kankasanthurai around 4. 00 p.m. today (10). The claymore mine was set up to be detonated by a remote control device.

The claymore mine was subsequently defused by the Army bomb disposal team.
