Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne made a visit to the Colombo Army Hospital today morning (July 15) and inquired about the health of the Sri Lanka Army soldiers who sustained serious injuries after the protesters brutally attacked them on Wednesday while they were on duty near the Parliament complex.

Two Army soldiers who were on duty at the Battaramulla Parliament Junction during the time of the protest in the evening hours on July 13, 2022, were brutally attacked by a violent group who came to occupy the Parliament complex, using iron rods and poles, until they became unconscious and the T-56 automatic weapons with two filled magazines of those soldiers were stolen. The Ministry of Defence emphasizes that the stealing of the two weapons and the magazines is a serious illegal act and poses a serious threat to the safety of the public.

Navy seizes a haul of cannabis
Sri Lanka Navy troops managed to seize a haul of cannabis in a special operation in Norachcholai today (6 Jul). According to SL Navy media, about 212 kg of Kerala cannabis was seized by naval troops while being transferred in a van. The Navy also arrested a suspect during the operation.
