Navy built High Dependency Unit at Wathupitiwala Base Hospital

Strengthening the government's initiative of expanding infrastructure facilities, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) built a High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Wathupitiwala Base Hospital and vested it in today (Aug 16) for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Navy to promote water sports in Jaffna

With a view to promoting water sports in Jaffna, Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Canoe Association of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Life Saving, conducted a workshop on Dragon Boat racing and life-saving at sea. The two-week-long workshop held at the waterfront of Karainagar channel intended to train 8 instructors representing schools of Jaffna and the fishery community. Meanwhile, the certificate awarding of the programme was conducted under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera and with the attendance of Secretary of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affair in Northern Province, Mr. L.Ilaangovan at Fort Hammenhiel Resort, Karainagar on 14th August 2021.

"Combating the National Security Issues Emanating from Illegal Narcotics Trade in Sri Lanka"

Institute of National Security Studies, the premier think tank on National Security established under the Ministry of Defence organized a Threat Lens titled “Combating the national security issues emanating from illegal narcotics trade in Sri Lanka” which was held on 13th August 2021 from 1000 hrs – 1130 hrs (IST) via zoom. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Priyangi Amarabandu, Chairperson of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. Professor Rohan Gunaratna, Director General of INSS, moderated the event.  The participants were welcomed by Mr. Asel Ariyaperuma, Intern (Research), at INSS. Thereafter the Director-General welcomed and introduced the Guest Speaker and opened the floor to a comprehensive dialogue on illegal narcotics trade in the country. The audience was comprised of representatives from international organizations, Ministries, tri forces, intelligence services, and academics.

Navy apprehends 03 suspects with Kerala Cannabis and Crystal Methamphetamine

A special foot patrol conducted by the Navy in Velvettithurai area, Jaffna this morning (14th August 2021) led to the seizure of about 126kg of Kerala cannabis and over 02kg of the drug Crystal Methamphetamine known as 'Ice'. Apart from these substances the Navy also managed to nab 03 suspects in connection to the incident and a cab used to transfer those items.
