The Meteorology Department in its weather report today (Dec 6) states that the low pressure area in the Gulf of Mannar sea area is likely to weaken further. Hence, the influence of this system to the island is expected to be gradually reduced.

The Meteorological Department’s statement issued at noon today (December 03) stated the cyclonic storm ‘BUREVI’ was located closer to the coastal area between Mannar and Pooneryn and it is gradually moving away from the island.

The Meteorological Department has informed that the depression area in the south-east Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a deep depression lay and centered 530 km southeast to Trincomalee at 0530hrs today (December 01).
