Troops in Kilinochchi assist public welfare programmes
Sri Lanka Army troops in Killinochchi responding to a request for assistance from the Blood Bank at the Kilinochchi Hospital volunteered to give blood to the patients of the hospital. Ministry to hold religious programmes in view of 'Tripitakabhivandana' Week
The 'Tripitakabhivandana' Week has been declared from 16th to 23rd March, to mark the occasion of initiating the process in order to declare the Theravada Tripitaka, the sacred scripture of Buddhists, as a World Heritage. The initiative is mooted under a concept of the President Maithripala Sirisena.
Another segment of land to be released in East
Another segment of land used by the Army is to be released in the Eastern region. According to Army media, 5.05 acres in Thiriyaya, Periyanilaveli and Thirukkovil Grama Seva sectors in the Kuchchaveli, Kalmunai and Thirukkovil Divisional Secretariats will be handed back on Monday (25).
Australian ships arrive in Trincomalee
Two Australian Naval ships arrived in Trincomalee on Sunday (17th March). According to Navy media, the two ships had arrived to the country on 11th (March) with a view to carryout initial survey of a drowned ship in the seas around Batticaloa during World War ll.

The 'Tripitakabhivandana' Week has been declared prior to the proposal made by Sri Lanka to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to declare the Theravada Tripitaka as a World Heritage, to create a Buddhist revival in the country as well as to provide knowledge to the younger generation regarding the Theravada Tripitaka, said President Maithripala Sirisena.
