The Navy assists conduct of annual feast of St. Anthony’s Church
in Kachchativu on successful note

The annual feast of St. Anthony’s Church in Kachchativu concluded on a successful note on 03rd and 04th March 2023. Kachchativu is an islet belonging to Sri Lanka, located close to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) of Sri Lanka and India. The main mass of the church festival was conducted by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, Rt. Rev. Anton Ranjith Pillenayagam, and proceedings of the event had been organised under the guidance of the District Secretary of Jaffna, Mr. A Sivabalasundaram and with the support of Navy Christian Council. The annual festival was attended by a number of devotees from both India and Sri Lanka. On behalf of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the main mass was attended by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Aruna Tennekoon.

The three esteemed Guest Speakers for the event were Dr. P.K.G. Harischandra, Director, Economic Research Department, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Prof. Priyanga Dunusinghe, Professor in Economics, Head, Department of Information Technology, University of Colombo and Dr. Dirk Willem te Velde, Director, International Economic Development Group, ODI Global, United Kingdom. This informative and timely session was moderated by Dr. Ganeshan Wignaraja, a Professorial Fellow in Economics and Trade at Gateway House in Mumbai and Senior Research Associate at ODI Global in London.
