Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd donates Rs.4 m worth machine to KDU Hospital to test COVID-19

The Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd has made a donation to the Kotalawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital to purchase a High Performance Real Time Quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) machine to facilitate COVID-19 testing at the hospital.

The documents of the official bank account of Rs. Four million to purchase the machine was handed over by Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited Director/CEO Gany Subramaniam to Defence Secretary Maj.Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, at the Ministry.

The Defence Secretary appreciated the company’s support given to the Hospital to purchase the machine, which is an essential equipment to contain the spreading of the COVID-19.

“KDU hospital is one of the best hospitals in the country. It is now designated to treat COVID-19 infected patients and there is no difference in taking infected patients to the hospital as it is open for patients from rich and maginalised segments in the society,” he said.

Subramaniam said it was pivotal for the private sector to collaborate and extend its fullest support to the authorities to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.

“We applaud the relentless efforts of the armed forces and health professionals in ensuring the impact on public health is minimized. In order to support their efforts further we strongly believe it is essential to have state of the art equipment and solutions that would detect accurately and help flatten the curve,” he said adding as a global insurance provider committed to the safety and wellbeing of the country’s people, the company is honored to assist in providing the machine to support carrying out COVID-19 testing at the KDU hospital.
