Immigration and Emigration Officers Association donates staffer’s day’s pay to the COVID -19 Healthcare Fund
April 08, 2020The Immigration and Emigration Officers Association (IEOA) has donated Rs. 547,063.43 to the ‘COVID – 19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund’ to strengthen the Government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The IEOA Secretary K.K.G.J Bandara said donation was made by collection the day’s pay of its members.
The cheque of the donation was handed over to Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne at the Ministry today (April 8).
The fund was established on instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a special fund to support the mitigation processes of the pandemic and also to to strengthen the Government mechanism launched to look after the social welfare of the needy in the existing crisis situation.
A special account has been opened at the Corporate Branch of the Bank of Ceylon under the account number of 85737373, where concerned locals as well as foreign donors could make their financial contributions. Donations to the fund will be exempted from tax and foreign exchange regulations. Meanwhile, donations could be made through cheques or telegraphic transfers.
