Police arrest rumor mongers for uploading fake posts on social media

A person, a resident of Kelaniyamulla, who was uploading false videos regarding COVID-19 via social media, has been arrested by the Police, yesterday.
He was produced before Courts, yesterday and remanded till April 16.
Meanwhile, another person who has also posted fake news on social media stating that COVID-19 infected patients were being treated at the Polgahawela hospital, was also arrested and produced before Courts, yesterday night.
According to Police, nine persons, who were engaged in similar activities and attempted to disrupt the quarantine process, have also been arrested and produced before Courts.
Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said Police, CID and Police Media Division were kept on high alert to nab such people, who post detrimental posts, videos and fake news via social media and other platforms to mislead the public to create panic among them.
