Army troops in Jaffna assist to distribute relief to over 150,000 people

Troops attached to Security Force - Jaffna (SF-J) have assisted officials of the Jaffna District Secretariat and Divisional Secretariats to distribute relief assistance to over 150,000 people who have been affected by the prevailing curfew imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the peninsular.

The relief financial support were distributed among Samurdhi recipients, kidney victims, disabled and elderly people and many other selected people affected due curfew to promote the Government’s initiative ‘Stay at Home’.

SF-J Commander Maj. Gen. Ruwan Wanigasooriya has instructed all Divisions, Brigades and other Army formations in Jaffna to offer their maximum support to implement the project to reach the needy.

Each beneficiary, recommended by the State authorities in the respective areas, has been given Rs. 5,000 under this scheme.

Troops, together with the State officials visited homes of those beneficiaries and assisted them to distribute those state grants.
