Rishad’s brother arrested for having links to Easter Sunday bomber

Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen's brother Mohomad Riyaj Bathiudeen has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Puttalam in connection to the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, said SP Jaliya Senaratne at a press conference held at the Department of Government Information today (15).

Recuperated investigations which are now being carried out in a full swing have revealed Riyaj Bathiudeen’s links with one of the suicide bombers of the Easter Sunday attacks, Police Spokesman said.

Investigations also reveals that Riyadh Bathiudeen had met with one of the suicide bombers at a reputed hotel prior to the attack, he said.

Suspects now in custody, have founded various welfare societies and similar institutions which they were holding various positions and further investigations have also revealed that, lands and some investments have been received as donations to these organizations, SP Jaliya Senaratne said.

 

 

Responding to a question SP Senaratne said, there is a lawyer among the suspects in custody revealingly who had close contacts with two bombers of the attack and the suspect have had several negotiations with bombers while holding various capacities in aforesaid societies.

CID and Terrorism Investigation Division (TID has arrested 119 and 78 suspects respectively and 40 suspects by CID and 52 by TID are being detained and interrogated under the detention orders.
     
Situation is complex and onward investigation are being carried out into each and every direction of the incident, spokesman added.
