More land released in the East

Another land release in the Eastern region was made during a ceremony held at the Divisional Secretariat in Ampara on Friday (18 January). According to Army media, formal documents relating to 39.75 acres of Army used lands in Pallekadu in the Eastern Province under the Kalmunai Divisional Secretariat were formally handed over by Commander, Security Forces-East, Major General Aruna Jayasekera to the Hon Governor of the Eastern Province Mr. MLAM Hisbullah, Chief Secretary of the Eastern Provincial Council, Mr D. M. Sarath Abeygunawardene and in turn to the District Secretary for Ampara, Mr D. M. L. Bandaranayake.

So far, the Army has released a large amount of land in the Northern and Eastern provinces. On Monday (21), in another land release, 1201.88 acres of state and private land used by Army in Mullaittivu, Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Wanni districts, including Udayarkattu, and three other Army farms were released during an event graced by the President Maithripala Sirisena at Vidyananda Maha Vidyalaya in Mulliyawalai, Mullaitivu.
