Chinese Govt. pledges to provide medical supplies and know how to fight against coronavirus
April 25, 2020Chinese Government has pledged to provide medical supplies to Sri Lanka to fight against coronavirus and also share experiences prevention, control and diagnosis of the virus.
The State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke made this pledge when he had a bilateral discussion over a phone call with his Sri Lankan Foreign counterpart Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
“We believe Sri Lanka will defeat the virus at an early date. China highly appreciates the hospitality Sri Lanka offers to overseas Chinese as their family members, and will as always ensure the safety and health of Sri Lankan nationals in China,’ he said highlighting China’s willingness to join Sri Lanka to recommence operation and production of mega joint projects, gradually, and ensure the consistency of production and supply chains.
Wang said China would stand in solidarity with Sri Lanka, and firmly supports WHO playing its important role in leading all countries fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Gunawardena appreciated the encouraging progress achieved by China in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized that this not only safeguards the health and safety of the Chinese people, but also inspires the fight in all other countries around the world.
Highlighting the importance of having united response of the international community to fight against coronavirus, which is the common enemy of the mankind, Gunawardena thanking China for supplying medical supplies assistance, said Sri Lanka appreciated China's firm support for WHO, which is also strong support for developing countries including Sri Lanka.
“Sri Lanka will stand firmly with China and looks forward to WHO's continued role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wang appreciated Sri Lanka’s support to China, where people of both countries had generations of friendship featuring sincere mutual assistance.
“When China firstly fought against coronavirus, Sri Lanka has extended great support and solidarity. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa held pirith chanting together with local citizens praying for China,” he said “A few weeks ago when China hold a national mourning, the flag of Sri Lanka embassy in China was flying at half-mast. We will never forget such heartening moves”.
