Educational assistance to Northern students

A large stock of school requirements was distributed among the flood affected students in the North, recently. The 'Senehe Siyapatha' project of the Ministry of Defence and Dialog Axiata group distributed these gift packs of school requirements among 2280 students of Kilinochchi Central College, Kilinochchi Hindu College, Panninkaddi Government Mixed School, Bharathi Hindu School, Punnaravi Mixed School, Saint Anthony's College, Murusumodai College, Kandawali Maha Vidyalaya, Murugananda Primary School, Waddakachchi South Mixed school and Mayawanur College during separate occasions on Monday (21 January). Sri Lanka Army troops in the North facilitated the donation programme.

The donation was made with the objective of assisting the students to resume educational activities which had been hampered by the recent floods caused by a bad weather spell.

Meanwhile, troops also facilitated the distribution of 100 dry ration packs, donated by private donors among flood affected families in Darmapuram on the same day.

In another occasion, Army troops in the North facilitated a donation where a large number of children studying in the Mullaithivu region, received school accessories donated by their Southern counterparts. According to Army media, 220 children from needy families were presented with these gift packs sent to them by the students and staff of Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya.

Troops also coordinated the donation of 250 packs of school accessories including exercise books to deserving students studying four schools in Jaffna schools on Saturday (19).
