Army assists 500,000 senior citizens to get their pensions
May 07, 2020Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in its islandwide program to assist pensioners to get their pensions, had accompanied over 500,000 seniors to banks to draw their monthly pensions for the second consecutive month, during curfew hours, yesterday (May 6).
Implemented following a suggestion made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last month to facilitate the country's senior citizens, who are unable to find transport due to prevailing curfew, SLA Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva directed the SLA establishments isladwide to deploy troops and also to get the support of Sri Lanka Transport Board busses in all districts to support the senior citizens to obtain their salaries during the SLA led program.
