Australia provides three Port Class Stabicraft to Sri Lanka Coast Guard
January 26, 2019The State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene graced the handing over ceremony of three Australian gifted Stabicraft vessels to Sri Lanka at SLNS Rangalla in the Colombo harbour, on Friday (25 January 2019).
These are Port Class Stabicraft were gifted to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard by Australia in keeping with a pledge made by the Australian Prime Minister, Hon. Malcolm Trunbull during visit to Sri Lanka in 2017.
The vessels were officially handed over to the State Minister by the Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka HE Bryce Hutchesson during the ceremony.
Later, State Minister Wijewardene along with the other dignitaries inspected the new vessels. The Australian High Commissioner was also presented with a memento by the Director General of the SLCG during the event.
These 6.6m long craft are capable of achieving a speed of 34 knots and are equipped with radar as well.
Ms. Tara Cavanagh, Minister- Counselor Home Affairs of Australia, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Navy, Director General of the SLCG, Australian HC officials, senior Navy and Coast Guard officers and a number of special invitees were also present at the occasion.
