Army declares open ‘Harmony Center’ as an extension of civil-military cooperation in Jaffna
May 12, 2020Sri Lanka Army declared open a ‘Harmony Center’ at promoting peace, reconciliation and wellbeing of the community in the Jaffna Peninsula yesterday (May 11).
The center was established at Kankesanuthurai, on the conceptual direction of Commander Security Forces – Jaffna Maj.Gen. Ruwan Wanigasooriya, as an extension of the Army’s civil-military cooperation initiative.
The harmony center is aimed at providing a common platform to accommodate a multitude of projects and events including education, communication and information, construction, empowering women and children, cultural and religious affairs, agriculture and livelihood, disaster mitigation, sports and entertainment and vocational etc.
The construction work had been carried out by the Army Corps of Engineer Services under the supervision of the Commander 515 Brigade. Meanwhile, expenses required for this new center had been facilitated by the Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna along with the assistance of civilian donors.
