Murder suspect of Monaragala dies at a shoot out
June 05, 2020The main suspect of the Monaragala murder incident died during exchange of gunfire with the Police this afternoon (June 5).
On a tip off received, the Police surrounded the hideout of the 31-year-old suspect who was evading arrest after the alleged murder.
When Police reached the location, the suspect had opened fire at the police officers and attempted to flee the location compelling the Police to retaliate.
“However, the wanted suspect had received gunshot injuries due to which he succumbed to injuries on admission to Sirigala hospital in Monaragala,” Police Spokesman Superintendent of Police (SP) Jaliya Senaratne said.
According to SP Senaratne, one hand grenade and one small firearm had been found in his possession.
Earlier on May 31, a 50- year-old resident in Marawa, Monaragala died in the shooting.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
