National hospital cash robber nabbed

The suspect of the Colombo National Hospital (CNH) cash robbery has been arrested when he was fleeing in a taxi near Borella after the incident yesterday (9).

The 33-year-old suspect from Horana, who is temporarily residing in Cotta Road, has been identified as a doctor who was following his postgraduate specialization at the CNH when he was involved in the daytime robbery, Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senarathne said.

He said two Police Constables of State Intelligence Service on duty at the scene of the incident had chased after the suspect and nabbed with the support of Chief Inspector (CI) Varuni Bogahawatta who had arrived in the hospital for an official commitment.

Cash worth of Rs 7.9 million was robbed by the suspect from the CNH, yesterday (9).

Maradana Police is now conducting further investigations into the incident, Police Spokesman said.
