No room for unlawful seizing of vehicles
June 13, 2020There is no room for the unlawful seizing of vehicles owing to the non-payment of leasing installments, said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Highlighting the practice of seizing of vehicles without informing the Police, President had instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police, Chandana Wickramaratne, not to entertain complaints from leasing companies after seizing of payment-stuck vehicles.
Referring to the section 2 of Circular number 16/2020 dated March 23 undersigned by the Presidential Secretary, President’s Media Division (PMD) said, the recovery of leasing installments from three-wheeler owners was suspended for 6 months, in view of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
PMD also states, seizing of vehicles for not settling the installments due, is a breach of government’s order.
