Army renovates Children's Park affected by floods
February 07, 2019In continuation of the troops' assistance to the communities in the North who were affected by the recent floods in the region, the Children's Park at Kakkaitivu pre-school premises in Anaikkoddai was completely renovated and handed over by Army troops. According to Army media, the newly re-done park was vested on the public during a ceremony on Tuesday (05 February).
In addition, 50 gift packs of educational accessories were presented to the pre-school children and 50 dry ration packets were also donated to a group of women from low-income families during the occasion.
General Officer Commanding, 51 Division Major General Roshan Seneviratne, senior Army officers, beneficiaries and a large number of local residents were present at the occasion.
Many areas in the North were inundated during a bad weather spell in December, last year. Apart from the initial rescue and relief operations, troops had initiated a number of projects to assist the flood affected communities resume their normal lives. The renovation of this children's park was also carried out as a part of that welfare initiative.
