SLAF airlifts eight feet Buddha statue to Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya
June 20, 2020The MI-17 helicopter airlifted eight feet towering Buddha statue of 3.5 tons from the Mandaduwa Ground, Weeraketiya to the Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya yesterday (June19).
This statue was the weightiest load airlifted ever, on a specifically designed airlift platform, was carried up to 270 ft altitude, moving almost three nautical miles from the lifting ground.
This historical operation was conducted under the directives of Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias.
