Police busts drug racket operated from Negombo prison; Three more arrested

Police uncovered a drug racket operated from the Negombo prison, leading to an arrest of three suspects including an Air Force person from Katunayake, yesterday (June 20).

The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the Police Western Province Intelligence Unit, about the drug peddling involving a Negombo prison inmate and a Sri Lanka Air Force sergeant attached to the Katunayake Air Force Base.

The latter was arrested along with 100 grams of heroin and 400 grams of kerala cannabis in his possession at the time of the arrest in Seeduwa.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the wife and a brother of the alleged Negombo Prison inmate with over two kilograms of Kerala Cannabis.

According to the Police, they were said to be running the drug operation on instructions given by the prison inmate.

Seeduwa and Minuwangoda Police are conducting further investigations.
