Six new chief jailors appointed, while 19 get transferred
June 25, 2020Six new chief jailors have been newly appointed while 19 others have been transferred with immediate effect on exigencies of service.
The chief jailor of the Negombo Prison was also among those transferred following the prison becoming notorious as a sanctuary for criminal offenders.
Recently, a drug racket that was being operated from the Negombo Prison was uncovered following a series of sting operations conducted by the Police.
Commissioner General of Prisons, Thushara Upuldeniya was appointed recently as the government expressed its intent for prison reforms to rid the country from criminal and underworld drug syndicates which were known to operate from prisons.
