Army built 'Ayati' National Centre for Children with Disabilities formally opens door
July 18, 2019Completing yet another milestone construction project in its community welfare commitments, the Sri Lanka Army constructed three-storied building was formally vested with the 'Ayati' Trust Sri Lanka and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya at a simple ceremony held this morning (18th July 2019). According to Army media, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake graced the ceremony and unveiled a plaque signifying the opening of this new facility dedicated to the rehabilitation of children with special needs.
The 'Ayati' Centre for Children with Disabilities has been built with the contribution of the Sri Lanka Army, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Hemas Holdings PLC, MAS Holdings, Rotary International, MICD architects, Wickramasinghe Associates, E&Y, People's Bank, People's Leasing, John Keels Holdings Company Ltd, Brandix, Foundation of Goodness and Triad. The project had cost Rs. 550 million for the 'Ayati' Trust Sri Lanka. The 10 (volunteer) Corps of Engineer Service (CES) of the Army had completed the construction work of the project within 13 months.
Once operational in December this year, this new state of the art facility will benefit children with special needs providing them with medical assessment, speech and language therapy, audiology and occupational therapy as well as physiotherapy free of charge.
The Sri Lanka Army has undertaken numerous projects to uplift the living standards of the people. This is one such project undertaken and successfully completed by the Army utilizing the expertise and skill of its personnel.
Senior Army officers, donor representatives, University officials and members of the Trust were also present at the occasion.
