Police Narcotic Bureau under scrutiny; four officers interdicted

The Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) has come under scrutiny following the arrest of its four officers, who had close association with drug traffickers, few days ago.
 
According to Police, four PNB officers including, one Sub-Inspector, two sergeants and one constable, have been interdicted with immediate effect.
 
Ongoing investigations have revealed that these police officers had assisted the drug dealers in transportation and distribution of drugs while earning large commissions.

On June 28, the Criminal Investigation Department on a tip off, arrested the Sub-Inspector along with Rs. 1 million in cash, a jeep and several other items used for drug trafficking from Minuwangoda.

Further investigations have revealed that the suspects had earned Rs. 31.1 million through drug deals.
 
Meanwhile, the Acting Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne has sought directives from the National Police Commission to transfer DIG Sajeewa Medawatte of the PNB.
