CSD cultivates abandoned paddy fields

Civil Security Department (CSD), under its program to cultivate abandoned paddy fields in the Colombo district, commenced cultivating abandoned paddy fields in Welikanna area, Hanwella today (June 30), CSD Director General Rear Admiral (Retd) Ananda Peiris , said.

“The program mooted to harvest the abandoned paddy fields in the country was initiated following a conception by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and on directives of Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne”, he said.

CSD is now conducting the program in collaboration with the Seethawaka Divisional Secretary and the Regional Govijana Sewa Officers, he said.

Seethawaka Divisional Secretary K.S Dilhani praising the CSD’s contribution to uphold the agro harvest and products in the country said, “Their contribution to sustain and develop various agriculture projects in the island is of immense support for the nation”.

According to the project in Lahirugama in Welikanna, five acres will be ploughed and harvested,  CSD Director Media Col. Nilantha Rathnasinghe said.
