Police recovered haul of weapons from a safe house at Homagama

Another haul of weapons and ammunition, kept hidden in a safe house, was uncovered by the Police during a raid conducted in Kendalanda, Homagama early this morning (July 02).

Four hand grenades, one pistol, two detonators, one locally manufactured weapon, ten repeater guns, one handcuff, one air-riffle and 600 rounds of ammunition were found during the raid, the Police said.

According to the Police, a suspect in hiding was arrested along with one T-56 weapon from Athurugiriya last night on information received subsequent to the arrest of a woman from Pitipana in Homagama.

Further interrogations on the38-year-old suspect, a resident at Habarakada, led to locating the safe house and the arrest of the haul of weapons from Kendalanda, the Police said.

Earlier, one suspected woman was arrested by the Police along with seven hand grenades and a stock of ammunition last evening from Pitipana in Homagama.

The Homagama Police is conducting further investigations.
